Insulation gasket kit: corrosion protection

Flange insulation kits are designed to ensure electrical insulation and combat the effects of corrosion, often found in flanged piping systems. Insulation gasket kits are designed to prevent leakage while protecting the system from corrosion caused by stray electrical currents. Several different types of flange insulation kits are available based on the flange type and the required application:

Type E (Full Face Gaskets for flat face flanges)

The Type "E" insulating gasket (FF, Full Face or Flat Face) provides complete protection of both flange faces. The gasket has the same outside diameter as the flanges. This feature prevents the collection of foreign matter between the flange faces, ensuring complete cathodic isolation.

Type F (Raised Face Gaskets for raised face flanges)

The Type "F" insulating gasket (RF or Raised Face) is manufactured to fit only the raised face surface of the flanges. The outside diameter of the gasket is designed to be slightly less than the inside diameter of the bolt circle. It is recommended that the flanges be wrapped to prevent foreign material from causing a "short circuit" between them.

Type D (RTJ: Gaskets for Ring Type Joint grooved flanges)

The Type "D" insulating gasket is specifically designed to fit Ring Type Joint (RTJ) flanges. The gasket, manufactured from phenolic resin or reinforced thermoplastic materials, features an oval or octagonal cross-section that fits perfectly into the standard flange groove. This configuration ensures effective electrical insulation and a very high-pressure seal, eliminating metal-to-metal contact within the joint seat.
